Is anyone using esy?

#1

I just started looking into Reason and I love it! Having spent a while using Haskell for side projects I’ve always been wanting to look into OCaml, and Reason gave me the push I needed. I looked around for ways to get started, and it all seemed quite confusing - but esy seemed the most straightforward, with the most minimal example.

(I should mention, I’m actually trying to use Reason for native/backend work first. Though I plan to jump into the frontend as well.)

I don’t see a lot of discussion of esy here, nor examples using it. Do people use it? How is it different to using any of the various other ways of setting Reason up? Am I going to have problems trying to do frontend with it? The state of the Reason build ecosystem is pretty unclear to me at this point.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to getting some stuff done! See y’all around.

esy is currently in rapid development. We haven’t been advertising it a ton yet because we want it to be rock solid before we evangelize it  but it’s definitely usable as is.

Sweet, yes I’ve definitely found that to be the case! I’m currently running it through Docker, mounting ~/.esy and it’s going great. Super easy to add OCaml packages once I figured out how to use Dune.

(Sorry for inadvertently spreading the word!)

I’ve been using them too, but would like it to generate dune files automatically from the config file
